HSC Costume Design
The Tempest- Shakespeare
Developed throughout 2012, my Drama Individual Projected required me to design 6 costumes for a selected Play of my choice. Rationals, sketchs, props, fabric swatches and designs completed the major work.
Shakespeare’s play, The Tempest, challenges universal themes of illusion of justice and rightful authority. My design concept was born from these themes, as I realised the play parallels with the history of colonisation, particularly within Australia. I developed this unique perspective to fuse the old and the new cultures in a contemporary context, remaining sensitive to the past yet embracing the future.
